I am the owner and illustrator of Gingiber. I have been an illustrator for 15+ years and have successfully sold my artwork across several categories such as art licensing, wholesale, direct to customer sales, direct downloads, books, teaching, and more. I cannot wait to teach you how to do the same!
If you grew up imagining a world where art could be your day job, you’re in the right place! Every artist out there is capable of beginning a creative side hustle that truly works for them, and building from there. (Yes, I’m talking to you!)
Not only is an artistic side hustle a source of extra income, it’s a great way to live out your dreams and make something bigger than yourself. Imagine being able to look back on your life and see that your hard work has built up a beautiful body of work, and you’ve turned potential clients into devoted fans.
A lot of people love this idea, but they just don’t know where to start! Or, they already have a side gig going, they just don’t know how to elevate their creative passion into the thriving small business they’ve envisioned.
As a professional artist myself, my goal is to help every creative person I can, because building your own lucrative side hustle is not as elusive as it might seem. I can help you take your creative vision and turn it into a real side job that gives you fulfillment, joy, and some extra money in your pocket. Let’s talk about some of my top tips for growing your creative outlet into a great side hustle.
How to grow your art side hustle:
Implementation: While making plans is great, staying in the planning phase isn’t the best way to establish a profitable side hustle. As simple as it may seem, the number one secret to finding success as an artist is implementation– putting those ideas to work!
The Roadmap: Make sure you have a plan or a roadmap to guide you through different art business models that you can start straight away even if you don’t want to start with licensing or hold inventory.
Leverage Your Art: Take each piece of art and squeeze every drop of opportunity out of it. Create as many income streams as you can out of the same works!
Art Licensing: You guys know I LOVE licensing! If you DO want to get into art licensing, then you can make money from a single piece across multiple industries, such as baby decor, stationery, fabric, kids’ clothing, bedding, and more. You can also sell the same licensed art on your own digital or physical products through platforms like Etsy or your own website.
Overcoming Self-Doubt: Self-doubts are only natural. Try to move through them rather than attempting to overcome them completely. All artists experience doubt, but the key is to do the work anyway and watch it pay off over time.
Work Smarter, Not Harder: Find ways to make money in the margins of your life by working smarter, not harder.
Maximize Earning Potential: Focus on making as much money as you can from the art you’ve already created by exploring various avenues and opportunities.
