5-Day Challenge: Restore Your Creativity in 5 Days
For the last few weeks on the blog, we’ve been exploring how to make effective plans for your art business and develop the right mindset to find success. Having a solid business plan is really important, but keep in mind: you don't want to get stuck in this step!
With all the planning you're doing trying to really take action in the coming year, you can feel pulled in different directions. I encourage you to take a 5-day rest and restore your creativity. You can do this after you’ve made your plan, or at any point.
Feed Your Creativity!
Sometimes after all the planning and analytical work it takes to succeed in the art world, we can feel our creativity is sucked dry. Sometimes we have to prioritize our creativity so that we can become that full version of ourselves. We want to be solid business owners, yes, we want to reach our goals, but If we aren’t being creative, why are we doing this?
So, I've created a 5-day challenge for you, including the first steps I recommend to any professional artist to get their ideas flowing. I encourage you to try this simple challenge for 5 days and see what happens!
The 5-Day Challenge
Day 1: Journal about your favorite memories
Our best art comes from things that are important to us! The easiest way to find your inspiration as an artist is to think of memories with friends and family members that truly mattered to you. Then, think of how you can channel those values and ideas into your next creations.
Day 2: Take a blanket outside and do nothing, or sit on a bench in the winter. Just get outside!
Spending time out in nature is a great way to find beauty and reflect. Take some time to slow down and simply observe the world-- you might just be struck by new ideas.
Day 3: Go for a nature walk for at least 30 minutes.
Now it's time to get active! Take a walk somewhere beautiful and be on the lookout for the little things-- unique rocks, your favorite flowers, running water. You don't have to be a nature-based artist to feel inspired by what you find.
Day 4: Schedule yourself an intentional nap time.
Your creative talents can get burned out by going and going without enough rest. Resetting and taking care of yourself is the best way to help you show up as your best self.
Day 5: Read a work of fiction– not a business book, not a podcast, but something that just takes you away.
A great way to keep your own art business ideas flowing is to keep learning from fellow artists. Reading fiction books can jumpstart your creativity in a way that self-help books and podcasts often don't. Plus, it helps you source ideas without having to worry if you're recreating other works of art in your own business.
Conclusion
Do these simple things for 5 days in a row, prioritizing the rest that can restore your creativity. After you're done, think about which of these exercises helped you feel the most rejuvenated in your art career, and try implementing it into your life on a regular basis.
Because in the end, we want to do all the right things in our business, and we want lots of art practice, but you know when the real magic happens? When we take care of ourselves, when we rest, when we get outside of our day-to-day norm, get outside, get inspired, and let creativity reignite our passion. You and your potential customers will be able to see the difference!
